Apprenticeship Scheme underway at Metaltech Ltd
![]() |
The geographic location of Metaltech has always made it difficult to find suitably qualified maintenance technicians with the necessary skills and experience to slot straight into work in the heat treatment environment. Being a distance away from the Midlands (the UK's epicentre of heat treatment) the desired engineering skills needed to maintain a diverse range of plant and equipment nearly always have to be obtained by on the job training in conjunction with a steep learning curve to understand fully the specific maintenance requirements of each piece of kit. In short, it takes a long time to become familiar with all aspects of plant maintenance in the heat treatment shop.
To overcome this problem Metaltech has recruited it's first engineering apprentice in Adrian Glendenning. Adrian has been employed at Metaltech since May 2008 and is currently undertaking a BTEC in Mechanical Engineering at the local Derwentside College and is clearly adapting well to understanding the idiosyncrancies of heat treatment plant maintenance.
